Land Park
South of downtown Sacramento, the Land Park neighborhood got its name from the pioneer, William Land, who built the Western Hotel at the corner of 2nd and K St in 1875. The neighborhood is best known for William Land Park, which is a popular spot with locals for picnicking and jogging, and is also home to Fairytale Town and the Sacramento Zoo in addition to a nine-hole golf course.
The surrounding neighborhood features quaint homes and quiet streets, but there's no shortage of nearby local favorites including ice cream parlors like Gunther's and Vic's, and sweet spots like Marie's Donuts and Freeport Bakery.
At the northern end of Land Park sits a section of Broadway full of ethnic restaurants from Ethiopian to Nepalese, Mexican, Chinese and Japanese. Other favorites on the stretch include Tower Theatre, New Helvetia Brewing Company and Bike Dog Brewing Company. Those looking to delve into the city's past can tour the Old City Cemetery, which has options for regular and seasonal guided tours.
